Amman, Apr. 10 (Petra)-- A march organized by Jordanian political parties and professional associations set off after Friday prayer from Al-Husseini Mosque, reaffirming Jordan’s steadfast position both leadership and people in defending the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
Participants stressed that this custodianship is not merely a political stance, but a historic and religious commitment to protecting the holy city and preserving its sacred sites, particularly in light of ongoing attempts to erase Palestinian identity and impose a new reality on the ground.
Representing the full spectrum of Jordanian society, demonstrators underscored that the Kingdom which has long made significant sacrifices for Jerusalem will not tolerate any harm to Al-Aqsa Mosque, nor allow measures aimed at altering its Arab and Islamic character.
They emphasized that participation in the march reflects a national, professional, and moral duty, sending a clear message rejecting policies and actions targeting the Palestinian people, as well as repeated violations against Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The participants also echoed the messages of His Majesty King Abdullah II from his recent meetings with Arab and international leaders, in which he reaffirmed Jordan’s unwavering stance on the Palestinian cause and stressed that the Hashemite custodianship over Jerusalem’s holy sites is a red line that cannot be compromised.
The King reiterated his rejection of any attempts to impose a new reality at Al-Aqsa Mosque or undermine Jerusalem’s Arab and Islamic identity, affirming that Jordan will continue its historical, political, and diplomatic role in defending the holy sites and supporting the resilience of the Palestinian people.
Participants expressed their full support for the King’s positions, emphasizing national unity behind the Hashemite leadership and Jordan’s firm commitment to defending Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites positions they said reflect the Kingdom’s principles and the conscience of the Arab and Islamic world.
