Jerash, April 12 (Petra) -- Former ministers and lawmakers underscored the resilience of the Jordanian national narrative during a panel discussion titled "The Jordanian Narrative: A Story of Land and People," held at the Jerash Sports Club on Sunday.
The event, organized by the club’s social, youth, and women’s committees, focused on the historical evolution of Jordan’s identity and its role in building a modern state under Hashemite leadership.
Former Minister Mufleh al-Ruhaimi told the forum that the Jordanian narrative serves as a foundation for the future, blending history, identity, and the bond between the citizens and the monarchy. He noted that since the founding of Emirate of Transjordan, Jordan has maintained a delicate balance between stability and openness despite facing regional wars, refugee crises, and economic shifts.
Former Minister Atef Odibat described the national narrative as an authentic story written through action rather than words. He stated that the state was built on Hashemite legitimacy and the values of moderation, dignity, and human respect.
Senator Omar Al-Ayasra emphasized that documenting this narrative is a national project aimed at preserving collective memory. He noted that the Hashemite leadership represents a symbol of internal unity and historical legitimacy that provides the state with its moral and political framework. Al-Ayasra added that Jordan’s connection to the wider Arab and Islamic world is rooted in practical responsibility rather than mere slogans.
Member of Parliament Hamza al-Hawamdeh noted that the nation’s path remains guided by unchanging principles, including loyalty to the leadership, national unity, and the rule of law. He highlighted the importance of empowering the youth as the country’s renewable energy source in fields ranging from technology to politics.
Saif al-Islam Bani Mustafa, head of the National Youth Dialogue Forum, said the national narrative is an organic expression of the land and its geography rather than a reaction to political shifts. He specifically pointed to the role of Jerash in shaping the kingdom’s historical and cultural identity.
Jerash Sports Club President Dhahi al-Atoum concluded the session by affirming the club's commitment to youth and women’s empowerment programs, aimed at fostering community participation and supporting comprehensive development within the Jerash governorate.
