Amman, Sept. 22 (Petra) -- The resumption and continued support of low-cost air services could play a significant role in expanding Jordan’s tourism market, particularly by making the Kingdom more accessible to a broader range of international travelers, according to President of the Tour Guides Association Ayman Omar.
Speaking to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), Omar said previous experience had demonstrated the positive impact of low-cost flights on tourist arrivals to Jordan. More affordable airfares, he noted, can open the market to a wider segment of visitors, particularly foreign travelers with low or middle incomes who may otherwise find the cost of travel a barrier.
Omar said the tourism industry has welcomed both the return of low-cost air services and the government’s efforts to support them, given their broad impact across the sector.
He pointed out that increased tourist arrivals benefit a wide range of businesses and professionals, from hotels, restaurants and transportation companies to tourism offices, tour guides, retail outlets and tourist attractions.
According to Omar, government support for low-cost aviation should be viewed as a direct investment in Jordan’s tourism industry, as increased visitor numbers can stimulate tourism activity while generating employment and income opportunities for workers throughout the sector.
The government’s efforts in this area have been carried out by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities through the Jordan Tourism Board, as part of measures aimed at increasing the number of tourists visiting the Kingdom.
