Amman, April 8 (Petra) – The State Security Court’s Attorney General, Brig. Gen. Ahmad Talaat Shahaltouq, on Wednesday, approved a multi-count indictment against a suspect in the March 18 killing of three anti-narcotics officers.
The decision follows the conclusion of the public prosecution’s investigation into the raid, which left three members of the Anti-Narcotics Department dead.
The Attorney General formally charged the defendant with several capital felonies, most notably three counts of aggravated physical assault of officers enforcing the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law resulting in death. Under the 2016 Narcotics Law, the suspect also faces charges of armed resistance against law enforcement and assault causing permanent disability or disfigurement to an officer.
Beyond the homicide and assault charges, the indictment includes felonies for the possession and sale of narcotics with the intent to traffic. The suspect is further charged under the Prevention of Terrorism Law for the illegal possession of a firearm intended for unlawful use.
The prosecution also listed multiple misdemeanors related to the personal possession and consumption of various narcotics and psychotropic preparations.
Legal proceedings will now move toward the formal notification of the indictment. The case is being referred to the State Security Court – the Kingdom’s specialized tribunal for high-stakes narcotics and national security offenses – to begin trial.
