Amman, November 26 (Petra) – The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply handled 53 competition cases and its promotion in the local market, in accordance with the provisions of the Competition Law, during the first 10 months of 2025.
According to a ministry statement issued Wednesday, the cases mainly focused on reviewing and studying complaints, consultations, mergers, and economic concentration requests submitted by various economic sectors.
The ministry's spokesperson, Yanal Barmawi, stated the ministry is working on several fronts to ensure "fair" competition in the local market among suppliers of goods and services to serve the national economy and protect consumer interests.
He added that this effort also aims to enhance the Kingdom's business environment by establishing market rules and price freedom within regulatory frameworks that guarantee "fair" competition.
During the January-October period, he announced the ministry dealt with 17 complaints of competition-related violations, which covered multiple sectors, including processed meats, dairy products, bakery products, soft beverages, pharmaceuticals, metal industries, telecommunications, electronic applications and systems, mobile devices, auto parts, health products, delivery service companies, and others.
On subsequent measures, he said the ministry's Competition Directorate conducted the "necessary" studies and took direct action against a number of violators to stop their practices and rectify the situation to ensure "proper market operations.
The ministry handled 31 cases, comprising 24 requests for opinions, 4 mergers, and 3 others for economic concentration across diverse sectors and issued the necessary decisions regarding these files, he pointed out.
The ministry, he said, played an advisory role by providing opinions on 5 competition-related files submitted by public and private sector institutions, which contributed to clarifying the provisions of the law and enabling institutions to rectify their situations and avoid anti-competitive practices.
