Zarqa, Sept. 21 (Petra) -- A 60-bed hospital is set to be built in the King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz City (East City), Zarqa Governorate, as part of the second phase of the Meras investment project.
Amman Logistic Company and the National Resources Investment and Development Corporation (Mawared) signed an agreement Monday to purchase the land allocated for the hospital, paving the way for its design, licensing and construction. The agreement covers five plots totaling 5,843 square meters. Four plots will be used for the hospital, while the fifth will accommodate a four-story parking facility.
According to preliminary plans, the hospital will have a built-up area of about 11,000 square meters across 10 floors and will provide integrated medical, diagnostic and treatment services in line with modern health care requirements. The hospital will include emergency, obstetrics and gynecology, dialysis, operating rooms, intensive care and neonatal units, as well as laboratory, radiology, pharmacy and outpatient services.
Plans also include specialized centers for fertility and assisted reproduction, cardiovascular diseases and surgery, including open-heart surgery, and neurology and neurosurgery. The facilities are expected to expand specialized health care services for residents of Zarqa and neighboring areas and reduce the need to travel to other governorates for certain treatments.
Amman Logistic Company Founder and General Manager Ahmad Tamimi described the land purchase agreement as a key milestone in the second phase of Meras and said it would allow the hospital to move into the design, licensing and construction stages.
He identified the hospital as the project’s main health care component and noted that its specialized centers are intended to provide advanced medical services to residents of Zarqa and surrounding areas.
Mawared Chair Sami Halaseh described the hospital as an important development project given the urban and population growth in East City, stressing the importance of directing investment toward projects that provide essential and sustainable services.
He also highlighted the agreement as an example of cooperation between national institutions and the private sector in developing land and establishing productive and service-oriented projects that support local development and investment.
Deputy Chair of the Zarqa Chamber of Commerce Imad Abu Bandoura noted that the hospital would strengthen health care services in East City while contributing to economic activity through the broader Meras project.
The second phase of Meras comes as work on its first phase advances, with the four-star Meras Hotel expected to open later this year. The wider project is being developed as an integrated investment complex combining health care, hospitality, commercial and entertainment activities.
The project also includes Meras Boulevard, a commercial and entertainment destination featuring shops, restaurants, cafes and spaces for events and activities.
The broader development is expected to increase visitor flows and commercial and service activity while supporting the hospitality, transport, supply and logistics sectors and creating opportunities for local businesses and employment.
Several components of the project incorporate green-building concepts and energy and water efficiency as part of efforts to develop modern, sustainable facilities that combine investment, services and urban development.
